HOT HACKERS
An exciting and academically-challenging weekend course that explores modern communications and brings students up to date with the latest in computer technology. It will appeal to students who have an enquiring scientific mind and the ability to rapidly acquire and synthesize technical information.
How did communications evolve from the humble smoke signal and jungle drum? How can a tiny mobile phone in someone's pocket almost instantly connect to a landline telephone deep in the Australian outback? What really happens when you send an email? Exactly what is Broadband? What roles do satellites and under-sea cables play in all this?
To consolidate our understanding of Internet topography, we will try our hand at "hacking" into remote servers and computers to test and map the route our communications take around the World.
An Exhibition for Parents at the end of the course provides the opportunity to explain communications technology and admit to where we have visited in cyberspace!
